The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is a consortium of county and city governments representing Washington, DC, and its surrounding suburbs. MWCOG is coordinating this effort on behalf of the following jurisdictions and drinking and wastewater utilities:

All of these local governments and utilities have a shared interest in informing their residents about various issues related to the safety and quantity of drinking water, as well as the long term well being of the water system — treatment plants, pipes, etc.
